Ageo, Japan – UD Trucks’ first new Croner medium duty truck for Southern Africa was produced in its Rosslyn assembly factory in South Africa at the end of July, 2017. UD Trucks Southern Africa employees at the Rosslyn factory celebrated the first Croner unit to come off the line.
Following the Croner global launch in February in Bangkok, Thailand, the new Croner range was launched in Southern Africa in June 2017, with 13 variants and the range offering up to 21 customizable configurations to maximize productivity and uptime. Same as for the already introduced Quester, semi-knocked down kits for Croner are manufactured in the UD Trucks Bangkok Factory in Thailand and sent to the Rosslyn factory for assembly.
"A significant investment was made in the upgrading of the local assembly facilities to accommodate production of the Croner range, including new tooling, equipment, jigs and fixtures," said Aubrey Rambau, Rosslyn Plant General Manager. "This also included the training of factory employees and new systems to ensure the quality of the end product driving out of the factory."
Staff members from the Quality, Engineering, Logistics and Production departments were sent to the UD Trucks’ Bangkok factory, which is the sister factory of UD Trucks Ageo factory in Japan, in order to receive in-depth training on the new Croner. A number of UD Trucks engineers and experts from Japan and the UD Bangkok factory have been sent to the Rosslyn factory to assist with the roll-out of the new range.
"Development of UD Trucks' Croner has been done with quality and reliability at the forefront, right from the start of the design, through engineering, local field testing and now in the local assembly of the range in South Africa," said Gert Swanepoel, Managing Director of UD Trucks Southern Africa.
UD Trucks delivers Croner with confidence to Southern Africa customers together with Quester, UD Trucks’ flagship heavy duty truck for growth markets, in order to make every moment count for customers’ business.
