UD Trucks continues to invest in diverse talent by recruiting 200 new graduates in Japan from 2021. The group included 172 new mechanics, 71 are non-Japanese and 4 are women, reinforcing the importance of diversity at UD Trucks.
Due to the ongoing pandemic, this was the second year in a row that the ceremony was held virtually. The new graduates connected by video conference from 12 venues nationwide, with the welcome messages broadcast live from Ageo headquarters.
UD Trucks President Takamitsu Sakamaki, Japan Sales Senior Vice President Kouji Maruyama and Human Resources Senior Vice President Ylva Schele, gave a heartfelt welcome to the new colleagues. In order to put everyone at ease, the event opened with an ice breaking session where all connected parties smiled and waved at each other.
Takamitsu Sakamaki said, "You have joined us during a once-in-a-century transformation of the transportation industry. To thrive in this era we need to work with counterparts from around the world. We are proud of our ability to embrace change. Our strength is our culture of diversity and teamwork. I am confident that your actions will translate into a great sense of accomplishment and support the company's Better Life purpose to make the world better for people and the planet".
Kouji Maruyama remarked, "I am really excited to have you on board. Our work is often demanding, our workplace is fun, and interact with each other honestly and openly".
Ylva Schele concluded, "I remember when I first began my career and the wonderful people that supported me to grow and reach my full potential, just as we hope to do with all of you. Today is an important day for each of you and all of us".
Beyond the online ceremony, UD Trucks is offering induction training virtually for new graduates using a similar online setup, which allows participants to interact online with each other as well fostering a sense of belonging and unity.
